Weight of expectation surrounds Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall
Undefeated, undisputed super lightweight champion and Scotsman Josh Taylor, will be defending his title against also undefeated contender, Jack Catterall from England this Saturday at “The SSE Hydro”, in Glasgow, Scotland.
Great Scot! The 30-year-old champion unified all four titles when he defeated José Carlos Ramírez last May, sending him to the canvas twice, for a unanimous decision victory.
With this win, Taylor (18-0, 13 KOs) established himself not only as the best super lightweight in the world, but also as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers working today.
Catterall (26-0, 13 KOs) has waited a long time for his first title shot. He was scheduled to face Taylor earlier, but stepped aside to allow the Taylor vs. Ramirez to happen.
At Friday’s official weigh-in, Taylor weighed smack bang on the 140-pound limit, while Catterall clocked in at 139 pounds, for the first world title challenge of his career.
The transmission for the United Kingdom will be through SKY SPORTS, for the United States through ESPN + and for Latin America through ESPN KNOCKOUT.
